Apple Valley teen killed in ATV accident on Thanksgiving

A teenage girl from Apple Valley was killed in an ATV accident on Thanksgiving.

At about 3:43 p.m. Thursday, law enforcement was dispatched to a report of an ATV accident in a large field near the Brainerd Airport, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office. They learned that two riders on the ATV approached a valley in the field, went airborne and landed at the bottom of the valley The ATV then rolled multiple ties and came to rest on the other side of the valley.

The 18-year-old ATV driver was taken to North Memorial Health Hospital by Aircare, according to the sheriff’s office. Their current condition is unknown. The passenger, 16-year-old Isabella Brandt, was declared dead at the scene.

Both the driver and Brandt were from Apple Valley. Neither was wearing a helmet or any protective gear at the time of the crash, law enforcement said.

Brainerd police and North ambulance responded to the scene. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating the crash.
