Allianz Field to host USMNT World Cup qualifier in February
Allianz Field has been selected to host a World Cup qualifier match in February.
U.S. Soccer and Minnesota United announced Wednesday that the U.S. Men’s National Team will play Honduras on Feb. 2, 2022, at Allianz Field, which will be the first World Cup qualifier at the venue. The Americans will return to Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio, for their World Cup qualifier against El Salvador on Jan. 27 before the match against Honduras. Kickoff times will be announced at a later date.
Due to expected high demand, U.S. Soccer will use a weighted random draw for tickets to the match.
"As we have seen throughout the qualifying process so far, great stadiums and great atmospheres provide a huge advantage to our team," USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter said. "We’ve had fantastic experiences in Columbus and the Twin Cities and look forward to continuing our World Cup Qualifying campaign in front of our fans."
Minnesota will be the 21st state to host a World Cup qualifier when the match takes place. It will also mark the second appearance at Allianz Field for the USMNT, after previously opening the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup with a 4-0 win against Guyana.
