Medical examiner corroborates homicide ruling in Minneapolis infant’s death; mother facing murder charges
The infant who was allegedly beaten to death by his mother in Minneapolis has been identified.
Two-month-old Akasha Perdew died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to a Wednesday release from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, and his death was ruled a homicide.
The child’s mother, 23-year-old Addison Perdew, was arrested and soon charged with two counts of second-degree murder with intent after police officers performed a welfare check on their apartment in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis on Nov. 10. The medical examiner also responded to the scene after officers found a deceased infant with signs of trauma.
Police opened a homicide investigation on Nov. 10, calling the child’s death the 83rd homicide of 2021 in Minneapolis.
Addison Perdew remains in custody at the Hennepin County Jail. Her bail was set at $1 million and she has an upcoming hearing in December.
