18-year-old sentenced to probation for sexual assault of 6-year-old

An 18-year-old who pleaded guilty to criminal sexual conduct involving a 6-year-old in Brooklyn Park has been sentenced.

Tuesday, Jonah Paul Canny was sentenced to 145 days at the Hennepin County Workhouse — which he’s already served — and five years of supervised probation.

According to a criminal complaint, on Wednesday, May 26 at about 11:05 p.m., Brooklyn Park police received a report that a 6-year-old was sexually assaulted. The victim’s mother told officers that the child was with family members at Willowstone Park. When the victim came home, he said that someone took off his clothes and touched his private area and underside. Witnesses identified Canny as the suspect.
