Saturday was National Adoption Day — and a number of children in Hennepin County found a new home.

Thirty-two children in foster care found their forever home during a virtual court hearing Saturday morning. While it’s an exciting day for many families, county officials said there are still plenty of kids waiting for a permanent home.

"We have about 100 kids or so that don’t have an identified resource, meaning that a relative or a foster parent is not going to adopt them," Melissa Sherlock, program manager at Hennepin County Child Foster Care Licensing and Adoption, said. "Most of those kids are older kids, teenagers, members of sibling groups — sometimes large sibling groups — and they’re generally kids of color that we need to find families for."
