State patrol investigating fatal crash along I-94 in St. Paul

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened on eastbound Interstate 94 in St. Paul Sunday night.

The crash happened at about 9 p.m. near the Cretin Avenue/Vandalia Street exit. It temporarily shut down a portion of the interstate. That portion has since reopened, as of Monday morning.

The state patrol reported it was unclear what led up to the crash and how many people were involved in the crash.

A portion of Interstate 94 eastbound near St. Paul is closed Sunday night due to a fatal crash, the State Patrol said.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, I-94 between Highway 280 and Exit 237 is closed as of 9:28 p.m.

Traffic management cameras showed a number of emergency vehicles on the highway and a major traffic backup.

Eastbound traffic is currently being diverted to Highway 280 northbound, MnDOT said. The State Patrol said the road will be closed for an extended period of time.

The amount of time the closure will last is unknown.
