Class AA Boys Soccer Semifinal: No. 3 Holy Angels upsets No. 2 Mahtomedi

In the Class AA boys soccer semifinal, the No. 3 seeded Academy of Holy Angels Stars defeated the No. 2 seeded Mahtomedi Zephyrs 3-2 at US Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

Holy Angel senior Aidan Smith scored on a free kick from about 30 yards out to make it 1-0 Stars with 11:58 left in the first half.
Later, a Holy Angels player was taken down in the box and awarded a penalty kick. Smith would connect on the kick to make it 2-0 Stars with 31:51 remaining in the game.
Mathomedi would answer back off a free-kick of their own when senior Collin Potvin scored on a header to make it 2-1 Stars with 28:25 left in the game.

But, Stars would answer back when Smith scored his third goal of the game to make it 3-1 Holy Angels with just over 20 minutes remaining in the game. Mathomedi would add a late goal, but Holy Angels would hang on for the win.
Holy Angels will now face Orono on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium.
