Heavy rainfall and damaging winds expected Sunday; calmer weather to come

Severe thunderstorms are expected on Sunday across Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, according to KSTP Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas.

Thunderstorms are expected to be heavy with a warm front from Mankato to the Twin Cities into western Wisconsin. The storm would likely become severe quickly with a tornado, damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall threat, said Yuhas.

The next round of thunderstorms will be along a cold front Sunday night with severe thunderstorms that will have a threat of damaging winds developing after 6 p.m. from International Falls to Alexandria and moving southeast toward the Twin Cities, St.Cloud and Mankato areas after 10 p.m.

Sunday will be hot and humid with a high of 87 degrees, but the heat index indicates the temperature to be low to mid-90’s degree.

As for Monday, it is expected to be more relaxed and less humid.

Then 80 degrees and higher temperatures are expected for the rest of the week with a chance of thunderstorms and humid conditions from Thursday through Saturday.
