Man dies after crashing into tree in western Wisconsin

A man is dead after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree in western Wisconsin on Sunday.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says at about 10:33 p.m., authorities were notified of a crash that happened on County Road E in the Town of Lorain. The caller reported that a Ford truck ran into a tree, causing the tree to fall on the road.

Deputies arrived on scene and learned that 62-year-old Joseph Lang was traveling north on the county road, and as the road made a sharp curve to the left, the driver continued driving straight off the road. After he entered the ditch, the vehicle struck a tree. Lang was the only occupant of the vehicle, according to a news release.

Lang was airlifted to Regions Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
