Some of the state's most inspiring athletes and coaches were recognized Wednesday at the 34th annual Minnesota Girls and Women in Sports Day.
The event is part of a nationwide celebration that highlights athletes who uplift girls and women in sports.
Wednesday, 17 Minnesotans were honored, including 13-year-old Maddy Freking, who was part of the team that represented Minnesota in this past year's Little League World Series.
"We're all over the place with what we're honoring and that's what makes it so exciting. We get to share so many different stories and stories that many people aren't aware of," said Jennifer Flowers, the WCHA Women's League Commissioner.
All of the honorees were nominated by schools, communities and sports organizations.
