A rookie running back is close to returning to action for the Minnesota Vikings.
The team said Tuesday that it has activated Kene Nwangwu from the reserve/injured list.
As a corresponding move, the team released running back Ameer Abdullah.
Nwangwu was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by Minnesota but was injured in the preseason.
The Vikings have a bye this week before returning to action against Dallas on Oct. 31.
