Minneapolis firm to represent Chauvin for expected appeal

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has found an attorney to represent him for his expected appeal of his conviction in George Floyd’s murder.

Chauvin was convicted of second- and third-degree murder as well as second-degree manslaughter.

He was sentenced to more than 22 years in prison.

Earlier this month, the Minnesota Supreme Court denied Chauvin’s request for a public defender. Chauvin stated his debts exceed his assets, leaving him to represent himself because he wouldn’t be able to cover attorney’s fees.

In a new filing, the law firm Mohrman, Kaardal & Erickson, P.A. states it will appear on Chauvin’s behalf. Attorney William Mohrman specifically filed the document.
