Woman identified in fatal Polk County crash

A woman who died in a crash Friday morning in western Wisconsin has been identified as 43-year-old Amy Benson of Clear Lake, Wisconsin.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, around 7 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on County Road F just north of 50th Avenue in Black Brook.

A 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee was driving north when it hit two deer. The driver veered, lost control and eventually overturned. The Jeep tumbled into the opposite lane of traffic, hitting and rolling over the top of a 1982 Mazda Rx7 that was traveling south.

Benson, the driver of the Jeep, was pronounced dead at the scene. The person driving the Mazda was airlifted to Regions Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
