A winter storm watch is underway for Saturday night into Sunday morning.
About 4 to 6 inches of snow is expected to accumulate in the Twin Cities by Sunday morning. Heavier amounts in the 6- to 9-inch range are anticipated south of the metro, and a lighter amount will fall to the north, according to KSTP Meteorologist Sam Ryan.
Winter storm warnings have been issued for several counties in a band just south of the Twin Cities, and winter weather advisories have been issued for several others, including Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka and Washington counties. Those alerts are set to go in effect from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. as the storm moves eastward.

The snow will start after 11 p.m. on Saturday, and at points it is expected to be falling at a rapid rate, Ryan said. It’s likely that snowplows won’t be able to keep up until the snowfall comes to an end.
Mankato, Albert Lea, and Rochester are expected to receive more than 6 inches of snow during the snowfall.
