Open Streets Lyndale to take place Sunday

Open Streets Minneapolis, an event hosted by Our Streets Minneapolis that brings communities of the city together, will be returning to Lyndale Avenue.

Open Streets Lyndale will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. It’s the largest of this year’s Open Streets events.

According to the event’s website, a four-mile stretch of Lyndale Avenue South from West 22nd Street to West 54th Street will be closed to vehicle traffic to open it up for people to enjoy activities on the street in a car-free environment.

There will be live entertainment, more than 140 local vendors and a large artisan market with over 30 local creators.

In addition, a COVID-19 community vaccination bus will be present at Lyndale Avenue and West 26th Street. No appointment is required to get vaccinated. Organizers recommend that all event attendees be vaccinated. Mask wearing is also encouraged in crowded areas or enclosed spaces. Those who are unvaccinated are asked to wear a mask at all times.

A final Open Streets event is scheduled for Oct. 24 on Minnehaha Avenue. The first ever Open Streets Minneapolis event was held 10 years ago.
