UPDATE: Electrical malfunction believed to have triggered Chanhassen High School lockdown

UPDATE: An electrical malfunction is believed to have triggered a lockdown at Chanhassen High School Thursday.

A post from the high school’s principal at about 10:50 a.m. stated that as part of the lockdown response process, Carver County sheriff’s deputies and local police checked the building to make sure it was clear.

"At no time were our students in danger, but I am proud of our entire community for the way they responded to make sure we stayed safe," Principal Doug Bullinger wrote in the post.

The lockdown has since been lifted and students were able to contact their parents or guardians and leave for the day, if preferred.

A lockdown was in effect early Thursday at Chanhassen High School.

According to East Carver County Schools, police said there "is no reason to believe there is an active threat."

Police were working to clear the scene as of 9:30 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Carver County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies were also searching and working to clear the building "out of an abundance of caution." Deputies also stated they do not believe there is an active threat.

Parents were asked to stay away from the building.

Updates are expected Thursday.
