MDH: Newly-verified COVID-19 deaths, cases included in Wednesday’s report

On Wednesday, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) reported some newly-verified COVID-19 cases and deaths associated with long-term care were included in the day’s report. Those cases and deaths were verified through a data review project started in early 2021.

MDH included 41 new deaths with Wednesday’s report. However, MDH broke that out to report one of those deaths occurred in June 2020, two in September 2020, one in October 2020, four in November 2020, 10 in December 2020, five in January 2021, five in February 2021, one in August 2021 and 12 this month.

As a result, MDH reported the following new totals Wednesday:

• 41 newly-reported deaths from COVID-19
• 2,736 newly-reported positive COVID-19 tests

Additionally, MDH said:

• Over 6.31 million COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered
• Over 3.17 million people have completed the vaccine series
• 72.6% of those 16 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine

Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported, as of Wednesday, 83 counties in Minnesota remained at a high level of COVID-19 community transmission. Another four counties are considered at a substantial spread.

According to the CDC, counties in red have a high level of community transmission, in orange have a substantial level, in yellow have a moderate level and in blue have a low level.
