Ex-Wild center Eric Staal staying ready for next NHL opportunity

Former Wild center Eric Staal lives in the Twin Cities and is staying in shape, waiting for his next NHL opportunity. Staal, who will be 37-years-old in October, wants to keep playing.
He split last year between Buffalo and Montreal, helping the Canadiens reach the Stanley Cup Finals. He had eight points (two goals, six assists) in 21 postseason games.
He scored 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 53 regular-season games, moved at the trade deadline by the Sabres to the Canadiens.
We caught up with him at a recent skating session in Edina.

If Staal lands a contract, it’ll be his 18th season in the NHL. He played four years for the Wild. He was a member of the Carolina Hurricanes’ Stanley Cup championship team in 2006. He also won gold for Canada at the 2007 World Championships and 2010 Olympics. He served as Canada’s captain in the 2013 World Championships.
Staal has played in more than 1,200 games, and he has 441 goals and 593 assists for 1,034 career points.
