Warrant issued for man who attacked another

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a suspect in an assault case.

According to the criminal complaint, 33-year-old Hussein Hassan Abtidon stabbed the victim in the head and face unprovoked.

Hennepin County charged Abtidon with first- and second-degree assault.

The original incident happened on Sept. 16 on the 1900 block of Chicago Avenue South at about 4:20 p.m., according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint states that in security camera footage, police saw Abtidon run up to the victim while he was at the front counter of the store and punch him. He then grabbed the victim around the neck. According to the complaint, the two didn’t know each other.

People in the store separated the two for a short time but Abtidon ran back up and continued the assault, the complaint stated.

Abtidon was escorted outside but ran back into the store through the other door, causing the victim to run outside with Abtidon chasing him, according to the complaint.

After an exchange in Somali, seen on a witness’s cellphone, Abtidon stabbed the victim in the head, according to the complaint.

The complaint states bystanders pulled Abtidon away from the victim, who ran to his car. Bystanders then took Abtidon to the ground and called 911, according to the complaint.

However, the complaint states they quickly moved away when they saw the victim coming back with a gun. The victim shot Abtidon in the leg, according to the complaint.

The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to the complaint.
