The Centennial Cougars played some old-school football that proved to be too much for 5th ranked Maple Grove to handle as the Cougars hand the Crimson its first loss of the season 21-7 on Friday night.
Lance Lui was the workhorse for Centennial, as he pounded the ball on the ground all night long and scored two touchdowns for the Cougars that proved to be the difference. Cougars quarterback Daylen Cummings also threw a 78-yard touchdown pass to Luke Clark that gave the team plenty of cushion in the team’s second win of the season.
Maple Grove quarterback Jacob Kilzer had some success moving the ball up the field on more than one occasion with long passes to teammate Cole Newell. However, the Cougars defense was suffocating only giving up one touchdown on the night.
It doesn’t get any easier for Centennial, as they’ll face No.3 Wayzata next Friday.
