Minnesota man quarantined in San Diego due to coronavirus hopes to come home soon

There is good news to report about the coronavirus, both globally and locally.

Health officials in China said Wednesday the number of new cases of the coronavirus in the country dropped for a second straight day. That’s a possible glimmer of hope amid the outbreak that has infected over 45,000 people worldwide and killed more than 1,100. The CDC said Wednesday night that a 14th American had tested positive for the virus.

A Minnesota man is quarantined in San Diego where the 13th case of coronavirus was confirmed this week. He hopes to be home soon. We spoke with Yu Lin Yin on Tuesday from the room where he is being held for testing.

"We’re actually starting to discuss when he will be able to come home," said Ann Yin, You Lin’s wife.

Ann has been helping orchestrate her husband’s return from China at their home in north Minneapolis.

"You know the whole thing has been scary, and up and down; just a whole host of emotions," she said.

Yu Lin flew to China to be with his family for the Chinese New Year. The day after he arrived, the coronavirus broke out.

Ann said after hearing the news her husband and his family self-quarantined. He eventually got an evacuation flight out, but one of the passengers tested positive for the coronavirus so he’s waiting in quarantine in San Diego for the all-clear.

Ann told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS doctors have told Yu Lin he’s safe.

"It’s still looking very likely that they’ll all able to come home next week," she said. "And so this morning we were on the phone starting to make arrangements for him to get back to Minnesota."

Ann doesn’t want her husband to come home until he’s absolutely healthy. By the way, his family in China is healthy. Ann credits that to the fact they all self-quarantined the minute they heard about the coronavirus.
