Barron County Sheriff’s Department warns of phone scammers posing as deputies

The Barron County Sheriff’s Department is warning its residents of a recent phone scam where scammers pose as deputies and make threats.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, the department has recently received reports from people saying they received a call from an alleged deputy at the Barron County Sheriff’s Department telling them not to hang up or they would issue a warrant. The reports stated that the fake deputies said if you stay on the line, they attempt to scam the victims.

"We do not issue warrants over the phone and if you have one, we do not call ahead and set up an appointment with you," the post said, in part.

The department urges residents to hang up and call the department’s non-emergency line at 715-537-3106.
