Weather advisories expire, snowfall totals vary around state

Most of the state saw light snowfall Monday evening, while other areas received higher, more localized amounts.

KSTP meteorologist Wren Clair forecasted anywhere from 1 to 4 inches of accumulation in the Twin Cities, while southern Minnesota would see the heaviest amount of snow.

According to Clair, as of 10 p.m., there was a total of 10.4 inches of snow in New Ulm, 8.5 inches in Nicollet, 6.5 inches in Mankato, 4.2 inches in Watertown, 4.7 inches in Maple Lake, 3 inches in Woodbury, 2.5 inches in Rogers and 2.4 inches in Apple Valley.

Because of the snow, a winter weather advisory was declared for multiple Minnesota and western Wisconsin counties. A winter storm warning was also issued for Brown, Sibley and Nicollet counties. Those advisories expired around 9 p.m.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported a number of roads in southern and central Minnesota were completely covered with snow as of 9:30 p.m. Roads in the metro area were partially covered.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported a total of 168 crashes throughout the state between 4 and 9:30 p.m. There were also a total of 174 vehicle spinouts, as well as two jackknifed semis.
