Man charged for fatally punching man outside Minneapolis club

A man has been charged for fatally punching a man in the head outside a Minneapolis club last month.

Court records show 22-year-old Emmanuel Ejiro Ogboru, of Andover, is charged with first- and second-degree manslaughter in the death of Awwal Adebayo Ladipo.

Minneapolis police responded to North Memorial Medical Center in the early morning hours of July 24 after a man, later identified as Ladipo, was assaulted near Lowry Avenue North and Penn Avenue North. Ladipo was gravely injured and receiving medical care after doctors found he’d suffered a skull fracture and had significant bleeding in his brain.

Witnesses told police the incident started as a fight involving multiple people, including Ladipo, outside a club. At some point, Ladipo was punched in the head and knocked unconscious, a criminal complaint states.

Ladipo died two days later.

Video from bystanders showed Ogboru was the person who hit Ladipo. He was later taken into custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
