Winter weather advisory in effect Thursday, frigid weather expected until next week

The commute on Thursday is likely to have some delays with more snow falling in Minnesota.

KSTP Chief Meteorologist Ken Barlow said a winter weather advisory is in effect until 3 p.m. for most of the metro area, southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The snowfall is expected to be 1-3 inches with blowing snow starting Thursday morning into the afternoon.

Barlow said Thursday would have a high of 30 degrees, but temperatures are expected to fall into the teens by 3 p.m., there will also be a wind chill of minus 10 to minus 15 degrees.

Meanwhile, KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith said traffic was slow in the metro due to slick roads.

She also said that the Minnesota Department of Transportation was out treating some highways and interstates but advised driving at a slower speed.

According to the National Weather Service, frigid and cold weather is expected to start and last until next week, with wind chill staying below minus 10 degrees.

Friday is expected to partly sunny with very cold weather and a high of 10 degrees with a low of minus 2 degrees.

Going into the weekend, the temperatures are continually dropping, with Saturday expected to have a high of 2 degrees and a low of minus 15 degrees. While Sunday is expected to have a high of minus 4 degrees and a low of minus 16 degrees.
