Low temperatures, wind chills expected over weekend

After experiencing a January without any days where temperatures dropped below zero, Minnesotans will want to prepare for the chilly days ahead.
According to KSTP Chief Meteorologist Ken Barlow, temperatures Friday morning are expected to be in the single digits.
Barlow said temperatures in the Twin Cities will only reach a high of 10 degrees. Wind chills are expected to be minus 10 to minus 15 degrees as well.

Because strong winds are expected over the weekend, a wind chill advisory has been put in place for numerous Minnesota and western Wisconsin counties.

The advisory is in place from 3 a.m. Saturday to noon Sunday.
While the wind chill advisory will lift Sunday, Barlow says the cold is expected to stick around through next week. KSTP meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas added that the cold, arctic air will stay around Minnesota through Feb. 14.
Yuhas also advised that car batteries over five years old will often fail at temperatures -15 or colder. He also said for pet owners to be advised that ear tips and paws are very sensitive to the cold and prone to frostbite.
