UPDATE: Most lines working in Carlton, St. Louis counties after phone outage briefly shut down 911 system

UPDATE:

As of 10:50 a.m., the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office says most phone lines in the county are working again.

St. Louis County says their 911 phone lines have been restored and are working again as well.

However, the cities of Kettle River and Wright are working on a limited capacity and will still need to use the alternate numbers 218-384-4185 or 218-451-6843 if a caller cannot get through to 911 with their cellphone or landlines. The local provider is actively working to resolve the outage.

A phone outage has temporarily shut down the 911 system in Carlton and St. Louis counties Friday.

Officials reported the outage Friday morning, saying phone lines into and out of those counties were down, including the 911 line.

Crews in both counties are working to repair the outages.

Those in an emergency situation can still text the emergency to 911 in both counties.

If a call to 911 does not go through, people in Carlton County can call 218-451-6843 and people in St. Louis County can call 218-625-3581.

Updates are expected Friday.
