Just about every sport can be a game of inches and that was the case for the Olympic qualifying in the shot put event.
Rosemount’s Payton Otterdahl qualified by just one inch.
"Just the look on his face," Payton’s mom Shannon told KSTP Sports Director Joe Schmit. "He looked up toward the family and he was so excited."
Otterdahl was a two-time national champion during has time at North Dakota State. While his family is excited to watch him compete in Tokyo, they’ll be doing it in Minnesota because no fans are allowed at the competitions due to the pandemic.
"It’s very disappointing," Shannon Otterdahl said. "I was planning on going. I was saving money to go. Understandable with Covid and everything that’s going on, but I wish I could be there."
