Man found after truck fell into Mississippi River in Minneapolis

Rescue crews located a man who was missing Thursday morning after a truck entered the Mississippi River.

According to fire officials, at around 2:30 a.m., crews responded to a rescue after a truck reportedly went into the river near East Island Avenue and Northeast Main Street by Nicollet Island in Minneapolis.

In an update Thursday morning, officials said that upon arrival, firefighters, police and EMS workers found a woman who said she had been asleep in the truck and when she woke up, the vehicle was partially submerged in the river.

The man she was with was not in the truck when she awoke, she stated.

Authorities who responded found the vehicle about 50 feet down the embankment and in the river.

As the vehicle was being pulled from the water, a member of the police department’s forensics team found a man hiding in the underbrush about 100 feet away from the truck. He was identified as the truck’s driver, authorities said.

Police said the man and woman were evaluated at the scene and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital.

Authorities were not searching for any other individuals, police said.
