Wild lock up Marcus Foligno through 2023-24 season with contract extension

Wild forward Marcus Foligno could’ve been an unrestricted free agent after the season. However, Foligno and the Wild agreed to a contract extension on Tuesday. It’s worth $9.3 million total through the 2023-24 season. His annual salary starting next season will be $3.1 million.
Foligno, 29, is considered a team leader, respected by all teammates for his strong leadership skills.
Stats-wise, he notched 25 points (11-14=25), a plus-8 rating, 30 penalty minutes (PIM) and 184 hits in 59 games with Minnesota in 2019-20, setting career highs in points and plus/minus rating. The 6-foot-3, 224-pound forward led the team in hits and ranked third in plus/minus rating
He was acquired by the Wild along with Tyler Ennis and a third-round selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Jason Pominville, Marco Scandella and a fourth-round selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. The trade came on June 30, 2017. Foligno was selected by Buffalo in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
