A memorial service was held Monday afternoon for the man killed during a police chase two weeks ago in Minneapolis.

The public memorial service for Leneal Frazier started at noon at Shiloh Temple. Frazier’s vehicle was hit by a police squad car that was pursuing a carjacking suspect at the intersection of Lyndale and 41st avenues at around 12:30 a.m. on July 6.

Lanesha Frazier told KSTP her father was just a few blocks from home when he was killed.

"I don’t know if you guys have ever felt your heart break,” Jamie Frazier, the victim’s daughter, said on Monday. “My dad meant everything to me."

The Frazier family, including the victim’s niece Darnella, were comforted by members of George Floyd’s family. Darnella Frazier was recently awarded an honorary Pulitzer Prize for filming George Floyd’s death.

"They’ve always been in my heart," said Philonise Floyd, George Floyd’s brother. "Darnella Frazier really changed my entire life. If it wasn’t for her, we wouldn’t be talking about George Floyd, you wouldn’t even know who I was. The fact she lost her uncle in the way she lost him is a tragedy."

National civil rights attorney Ben Crump and local personal injury attorney Jeff Storms, who are representing the Frazier family, were also in attendance.

"They want accountability. They want to get the truth," Crump said. "It’s an emotional time. They don’t want to sweep his life under the rug. His life mattered,” Crump said.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash. When completed, the State Patrol says it will turn over the findings to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office for review.
