“I was in Nigeria in 2011 and I remember my uncle telling me: ‘If you get the chance to play with Nigeria, you have to do it’,” said Okogie, who emigrated to the United States with his family from Nigeria when he was three-years old.
Okogie, 22, was taken by the Timberwolves 20th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft after a solid run at Georgia Tech.
Nigeria opens pool play on Sunday vs. Australia. They upset the U.S. in a recent exhibition game.
