Man who died from weekend Minneapolis assault identified

A 25-year-old man was identified as the person who died days after he was assaulted in Minneapolis this past weekend.

According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Awwal Adebayo Ladipo of Minneapolis died due to blunt force head trauma.

The Minneapolis Police Department said officers were told on July 24 an assault victim was being taken to North Memorial Medical Center at about 2:57 a.m.

Officers went to the hospital and learned from doctors that the victim was in "very critical condition". Police then learned on Monday that the victim had died.

Minneapolis Police spokesman John Elder said a preliminary investigation indicates Ladipo was struck by someone and knocked to the ground after a disagreement became physical in the 2000 block of Lowry Avenue North.
