Man dead after stolen vehicle hits him in Minneapolis

A man died after a stolen minivan hit him while he was standing outside in Minneapolis Thursday morning.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, at 1:22 a.m., police and fire crews responded to a report of a personal injury crash involving a semi-truck and a minivan along Lyndale Avenue North near 46th Avenue North.

Police said emergency personnel arrived and saw that the minivan and semi-truck had crashed head-on. Officers found a man on the ground.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced the man dead. Officers secured the scene and spoke with numerous people who were in the area.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the white minivan, determined to have been stolen in Anoka County, was traveling southbound on Lyndale Avenue North at high speed and in a very erratic manner.

On the 4600 block, the minivan swerved and hit the man, believed to be in his 20s, who was standing outside. The minivan continued southbound and hit a semi-truck that was traveling northbound on Lyndale Avenue North. The driver of the minivan left the scene on foot, said police.

According to police, another vehicle pulled up after the crash and transported an injured passenger from the minivan to a nearby hospital.
