Q&A: All-Star free agent reliever Brad Hand has thought about playing for hometown Twins

2008 Chaska high school graduate Brad Hand has turned into one of the best relievers in the American League. He led the A.L. with 16 saves in the shortened 2020 season, and his 2.05 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, and 7.25 strikeout-to-walk ratio were all the best marks of his career.

A 2018 All-Star, Hand surprisingly saw Cleveland decline his $10 million option for 2021, then he cleared waivers. So, every team in baseball passed on taking on his contract.

Now a free agent, we asked him if he’s thought about landing with the Twins. Hand has a lethal slider and the Twins love that pitch.

Since 2016, Hand has had an ERA above 3.00 just one time and has a total of 105 saves. Initially a Miami draft pick, he was picked up by San Diego and shifted from starter to full-time reliever. Between San Diego and Cleveland, Hand, 30, has established himself as one of the most dominant arms in the game.
