Annandale head coach Matt Walter has a big problem with his football team these days… for the opposing team. Walters’ offensive line averages nearly 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds from tackle to tackle

"We’re big, we’re big up front, and we’re able to control the game and the ball. Our defense has been lights out all year. We haven’t given up more than two touchdowns in a game. If we keep playing like this, I think we can reach our goal this year of winning a section championship," said Matt Walter, Annandale football coach.

Currently, Annandale is 5-0 and will play Dassel-Cokato on Thursday night. It’s a rematch of a 3A semifinal last year that Dassel-Cokato won. Despite a shortened season, the boys still feel they have a lot to play for and are happy to simply have a season to begin with.

"We’re definitely grateful to have a season. Before when it was canceled, we were so down, hoping the spring season would go well, but I’m as grateful as I can be," said Logan Purcell, Annandale senior OL/DL.

Purcell is a Gophers commit that is looking forward to playing for the hometown school and coach P.J. Fleck.

"I’m a Minnesota boy through and through for sure. I grew up watching the Gophers. P.J. (Fleck) is a great guy. Everyone you talk to loves his energy. Every time I talk to him I ask him, ‘How many shots of espresso do you put in your coffee?’ I love his energy and the surrounding community. I always wanted to go to the "U" and be a Golden Gopher," Purcell added.
