Q&A: Lakeville native Jake Oettinger reflects on crazy journey with Dallas Stars

Lakeville native and Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger made his NHL debut during Game 2 of the Western Conference Final vs. Las Vegas. In doing so, Oettinger became the first goalie in 55 years to make their NHL debut in the round before the Stanley Cup Final. He replaced starter and ex-Wild goalie Anton Khudobin.
Oettinger, 21, entered the game at the start of the third period and stopped all five shots he faced.
He later earned some net time in the Stanley Cup Final that Tampa eventually won.

Oettinger is the Stars’ goaltender of the future after they selected him in the first round of the 2017 draft out of Boston University. He completed his first professional season this season, playing 38 games for Dallas’ AHL affiliate and posting a .917 save percentage, which was the best among all rookie goaltenders.
