Vikings linebacker tests positive for COVID-19, Mike Hughes placed on IR

Sources have told KSTP Sports that Minnesota Vikings linebacker Todd Davis has tested positive for COVID-19.

Davis, who was not on an NFL roster during Weeks 1 and 2 this season, had spent the offseason with the Denver Broncos and a majority of his career in Denver before joining the Vikings in Week 3. Davis has been in the league since 2014.

On Wednesday, the team had already placed cornerback Cameron Dantzler on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. In response to that news, Minnesota added two cornerbacks to its roster Monday and added another Tuesday, as their secondary is already depleted with Holton Hill and Mike Hughes both not practicing on Wednesday due to injuries. Kris Boyd was also limited in practice due to an injury this week as well. Hill has since been ruled out for Sunday’s contest.

Later Friday, Hughes was placed on injured reserve and the Vikings signed safety Curtis Riley from the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad. Riley has played in 47 NFL games in five seasons. The Vikings will be his fifth team.

There is no word as of Friday morning what the situation entails ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
