#1 Lakeville South football too much for rival Lakeville North

The #1 Lakeville South Cougars defeated the Lakeville North Panthers 35-15, Friday evening at South High School.

South kicked things off when sophomore running back Carson Hansen caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Reid Patterson to make it 7-0 Cougars with 2:37 left in the first.

North would answer right back when junior running back Gavyn Schraufnagel scored a short rushing touchdown to even the game at 7-7.

However, Hansen would have an answer of his own, scoring on a 75-yard touchdown run to make it a 14-7 game with 6:07 left in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Hansen set his team up with another long run. From there, Patterson found junior tight end Chase Androff in the end zone to make it a 21-7 game early in the third quarter.

Following a South fumble, North’s Logan Freeburg scored a short rushing touchdown. North converted a two-point conversion to make it 21-15 South with 1:06 left in the third quarter.

But, South would not quit. Running back Josh Jacobson scored on a sweep to make it a 28-15 game with just over nine minutes left in the game. North was trying to mount a comeback, but South’s senior Joe Abbot got himself an interception. Then, senior running back Garrett Savard scored on a 64-yard touchdown run to ice the game. 35-15 South remains unbeaten.
