Ask anyone in the state of Wisconsin about the start of football season taking place in a couple of weeks and you’ll find a renewed sense of happiness.

KSTP-TV Sports was at the first practice of the season for Hudson high school and the smiles were all over the field.

"Oh man, when I heard the news that we were going to be able to play football in the fall, I was exstatic. I couldn’t believe it. I was so happy that I couldn’t contain myself," said senior LB Kade Sundeen.

Added senior WR Carter Herink: "I feel bad for the boys in Minnesota who have to wait until the spring to play. I know it’s a difficult time for everyone, but when I heard the news about our season taking place in the fall, I was so happy. I just can’t wait for our first game in less than three weeks."

Wisconsin will have schools play a seven game schedule with a bye week. Schools have been feverishly looking for opponents to fill out their schedules. The hope is to have a two game playoff system and then decide a state championship format. Nearly 70 percent of Wisconsin high schools have opted to play football this fall, while the rest will play in the spring.

Hudson will host Menomonie on Friday, September 25th at 7 pm. Players will be limited to four family tickets and limited space will available for students due to social distancing.
