Cokato native Tyler Koivisto, 27, won the recent Northern Ireland Open. It gets him full exemption on the European Challenge Tour, and partial on the big European Tour.
In other words, his life has turned upside-down in a very good way.
KSTP Sports’ Darren Wolfson caught up with Koivisto, who is now in Portugal preparing for his next tournament.

After a nice career at St. Cloud St., Koivisto taught elementary school in Monticello. But his dream of playing professional golf never left him. He made the European Tour’s lowest exemption level last fall in a qualifier. He then finally got a call to come play a few days prior to this month’s Northern Ireland Open. He scrambled to get there, made it, and ended up winning the tournament by two strokes.
