Internationally recognized artist Ai Weiwei’s piece has been put up on the pillars at the entrance of the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
The piece features thousands of life vests worn by refugees as they fled from their home countries across the Mediterranean Sea to Greece.
The installation is part of the "When Home Won’t Let You Stay: Art and Migration" exhibit that opens on Sunday and runs through May 24.
According to the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, the state has the highest number of refugees per capita, which was one reason why the museum wanted to bring Ai’s art to the Twin Cities.
