Former Gopher MarQueis Gray hasn’t played in the NFL since September 2018. While with the Miami Dolphins, Gray suffered a torn right Achilles tendon in a practice just before the start of the regular season.
He’s been on the comeback trail ever since, and we talked to him about that, and much more.

Gray has 27 catches for 328 yards in 61 career NFL games, including 14 starts, for Cleveland, the Vikings, Buffalo and the Dolphins. His best season was 2016, with Miami, when he played in all 16 games, starting seven, and caught 14 passes for 174 yards.
Gray, who was a big-time recruiting win for then coach Tim Brewster, was a Gophers quarterback and wide receiver until entering the NFL as a tight end in 2013.
The plan was for Gray to workout in front of NFL scouts at the Gophers’ Pro Day in late March. But the COVID-19 pandemic blew up those plans. He’s been working out under the guidance of noted local trainer Bill Welle.
Wolfson and Gray also talked about his passion for the Gophers, and the pep talk he gave the team before the October win over Nebraska.
