Man dead, another injured in downtown Minneapolis nightclub shooting

One man was killed and one was injured in a shooting that happened inside Rouge at the Lounge nightclub in downtown Minneapolis early Sunday morning. 

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers responded to multiple 911 calls stating that shots were being fired inside a building on the 400 block of 2nd Avenue N. Some callers also told police that someone had been shot.

Authorities arrived on scene and described it as chaotic. Officers located an adult male in his 20s, who was suffering from a gunshot wound. At the time, police say the victim did not have a pulse and was not breathing. However, after officers began chest compressions and chest seals were applied, a heartbeat was reestablished. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), where he later died from his injuries.

Officers were successful in getting the scene under control and spoke with several witnesses in the area. HCMC called the police, saying another adult male in his 20s walked into their emergency room with a gunshot wound not considered to be life-threatening. It is believed to be relating to this incident. 

Staff from the department's crime lab arrived and processed the scene, collecting evidence for further analysis. Detectives also worked through the night and will continue throughout the day to work on the investigation. Police are also investigating if this incident is linked with prior shootings as well.

Minneapolis police say they are doing everything they can to keep downtown safe. 

"The fact of the matter is we can't be everywhere," Minneapolis Police spokesman John Elder said.  "We have one person who is dead, we have one person who is injured because of what one person did."

Minneapolis police say they are considering adding extra patrols downtown this summer.
