Gophers’ Wente picked by Whitecaps in NWHL Draft

University of Minnesota alum Taylor Wente is staying in the state.

The Plymouth native was selected by the Minnesota Whitecaps with the No. 18 pick in the NWHL Draft on Tuesday.

Wente, a forward, was a staple for the Gophers, racking up 73 points and winning 51.9% of her faceoffs in her four years for the Maroon & Gold.

The assistant captain and three-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete joins Alex Woken, Patti Marshall, Nicole Schammel, Kelly Pannek, Lee Stecklein, Dani Cameranesi, Hannah Brandt, Amanda Leveille, Milica McMillen, and Maryanne Menefee to make up Minnesota’s 11 all-time NWHL draft picks. Woken and Marshall were selected by the Whitecaps in the 2020 NWHL Draft.
