Lynx lose Achonwa, Powers indefinitely to injuries

Monday, the Minnesota Lynx announced injuries to two of its big offseason additions.

Forward Natalie Achonwa was diagnosed with a medial collateral ligament (MCL) sprain in her right knee. The team said she’ll be out indefinitely.

Additionally, guard Aerial Powers was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in her right thumb. She’s scheduled to undergo surgery later this week, and will be out indefinitely, the Lynx said.

Both were injured in Saturday night’s 80-64 win over the Los Angeles Sparks.

Powers is averaging 10 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in four games this season, her sixth in the league and first with Minnesota. Achonwa, also in her sixth season in the WNBA and first with the Lynx, is averaging 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game in eight games.

Saturday was Powers’s first game back since suffering a hamstring injury on May 26.
