The University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus is expecting one of its biggest freshman classes ever in the fall. It’s a welcome change after a significant enrollment dip due to the pandemic.

Systemwide confirmations from students coming directly from high school jumped about 12% compared to this time last year.

Schools were forced to reinvent recruiting during the pandemic. Administration officials said schools with strong name recognition fared better during the past year. The U of M also enhanced its financial aid packages and spent more on direct marketing and digital campaigns.

Enrollment projections could go up or down by 5-10% over the summer.

The final, official enrollment numbers will be calculated on the 10th day of the fall semester.
