Monday, a local coalition outlined a lawsuit it has filed, seeking revisions to the Minneapolis Police Federation contract with the city and calling for greater transparency.

Members of the Minneapolis For A Better Police Contract (MFBPC) coalition said they filed the lawsuit after claiming city officials and the police federation failed to allow the public access to negotiations.

The coalition claims that in 2019, city officials and the police federation moved contract negotiations to private mediation, despite learning the public wanted to observe those sessions.

MFBPC is now pushing for greater transparency and for the city’s mayor and council to adopt the recommendations the coalition provided.
