Drivers will be detoured around a long stretch of Interstate 694 this weekend in the east metro.

A closure will be in place for a concrete repair project that will shut down the road between Oakdale and Vadnais Heights.

This weekend’s closure starts at 10 p.m. Friday along I-694 northbound/westbound from 10th Street to Highway 61. By 5 a.m. on Monday, all lanes will reopen.

The detour takes drivers along I-94 and I-35E.

This isn’t the only closure drivers will see along this stretch. Coming up during the weekend of July 9-12, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has plans to close the eastbound side.

For those traveling along Hiawatha Avenue in Minneapolis this weekend, the road is already down to one lane near 32nd to 37th streets. MnDOT says all lanes are set to reopen at some point on Monday.

Something to watch for Friday night in the southwest metro: Interstate 494 will be down to one lane between Highway 169 and Highway 62 in Eden Prairie starting at 10 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday.
