Former Hopkins HS star wing Kerwin Walton Jr. was home for a bit in May, and KSTP Sports caught up with him.

Walton Jr. had a productive freshman season for North Carolina, averaging 8.2 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.7 rebounds on 44.5 percent shooting from the field while playing 21 minutes per game. He enters his sophomore season as a surefire starter and North Carolina’s most lethal threat from the outside.

Walton Jr. played his freshman year for Hall of Famer Roy Williams, who recently retired. Assistant Hubert Davis, who Walton Jr. has a solid relationship with, was elevated to take over.

Walton Jr. chose the Tar Heels a year ago over Minnesota and others.
